The Charmer isn’t just a record to listen to. It’s also an open the door to conversations about mental health, and we hope, checking in with one another. In honor of May’s Mental Health Awareness Month, Toadies have partnered with the Hi, How Are You Project , the nonprofit inspired by Daniel Johnston.
Toadies guitarist Clark Vogeler says, “When I learned of the mental health struggles suffered by my friend and bandmate Vaden Todd Lewis, and how he wants to encourage more open conversation about it through his words and lyrics, I was reminded of the Hi, How Are You? Project, an organization that fosters mental health awareness and discussion while also honoring the legacy of fellow Texas musician Daniel Johnston, who battled mental illness throughout his life. I felt that if we could somehow collaborate, we could help expand both the conversation and the reach of the project.”
This limited-edition shirt, features artwork inspired by Daniel Johnston and carries a simple but important message: “Hi, how are you?” Sometimes those four words can mean more than we realize. Proceeds from every shirt sold will benefit the Hi, How Are You? Project and help support their mental health education and awareness initiatives. This shirt is available online from mid May – mid June. We’re proud to be part of this collaboration and hope it encourages more open, honest conversations around mental health.
