TOADIES
Made in Texas EP (Maybe Records)
3k’s

A decades-spanning EP of grunge-ified alternative rock.
Twenty years is a long time to wait to make someone’s acquaintance but, after two decades of existence – give or take several year long hiatus when they still serially reformed for one-off gigs – the Toadies will be touring the UK for the first time ever this month. Whether the fact that they’ve finally got round to it is flattering or insulting is open to debate but this EP, comprising two tracks from each of their three albums so far is a reasonable enough calling card, mixing raw, sleazy bluesy howls with a more laid-back rhythmic drawl and hip-shaking alt-rock hooks.

TOADIES
This band’s stop-start career has seen them sell over one million copies of their debut album in the US. They went on hiatus in ’97, reformed in ’01, only to split later that same year. Hailing from Texas, the great southern trend kill they are not, however, they offer up southern-tinged rock with driving rhythms and powerful vocals. Toadies are now touring the UK for the first time in their 20-year career and the new record, ‘Made In Texas’, comprised of their three previous albums to date, is the perfect soundtrack to drinking bourbon. Oh yeah! AB

Second Annual Dia De Los Toadies

09-82744-td-dia-logo-final

Toadies will wind up the summer by hosting the Second Annual Dia De Los Toadies, a concert hosted by the band at a remote location of their choosing. It’s sort of a big ol’ Texas picnic with Toadies and five thousand of their closest friends. This year, the event takes place on Saturday, Aug 29th near Rough Creek Ranch in Glen Rose, an hour outside of the band’s hometown of Fort Worth, Texas. It’s a beautiful spot in the country on a private lake situated on an 11,000 acre ranch.
